Seven Straight Days Format
For some people, dedicating seven eight hour days in a row works best for their schedule. In this case, we would typically start on a Saturday and finish on the following Friday. Under this format, only one five day working week would need to be reserved, along with one weekend. Other start days are possible as agreed.
4-3 Format
For those who have difficulty taking off seven days in a row, there is another option. In this format, we would complete four straight days, followed by three days of student practice on their own using the simulator (typically at night after work), followed by three straight days of instruction. Using this format we would usually begin on a Thursday and finish the first four day session on Sunday. Student practice on their own, using the simulator takes place the following Monday to Thursday, with the final three days of instruction conducted from Friday to Sunday. Under this format, only three work week days along with two weekends are necessary.
Weekend-Only Format
This third option is ideal for people who have availability mostly on weekends. In this format, we would complete the program in three consecutive weekends. The first weekend would include a Friday 9Fri, Sat, Sun), followed by two successive weekends (both Sat & Sun), resulting in a total time of seven days. Students may use the simulator on their own, anytime during the intervening weekdays. Under this format, only one work week day along with two weekends are necessary.
Instructional Philosophy
The airplane is an ineffective and expensive classroom. Learning to fly on instruments is essentially a thinking game, ideally suited to a simulator. Unless weather dictates otherwise, the first four days of instruction are all conducted in the simulator, focusing on proficiency in instrument procedures and techniques. With essential skills learned through continual practice on the simulator, transitioning to the airplane over the final three days is seamless. Flying the airplane, using procedures already learned and perfected in the simulator, is enjoyable and confidence building for the student as well as an efficient way to build proficiency.
Cost
All formats are $4,900 for the seven days of instruction. There is no additional charge for instruction if you need more time to be ready for the checkride. At the end of the accelerated training, you will be endorsed for the checkride. The student must also provide an instrument capable airplane and if the airplane is student owned, I must be listed as an additional insured to compliment my own liability policy. 50% of the fee is payable in order to confirm the dates, with the balance due on the first day of the training.
